Press Release on H.B. 783

End Abortion Ohio Opposes H.B. 783: “You Cannot Legally Regulate Homicide.”

End Abortion Ohio (EAO) issues a formal statement of opposition to House Bill 783, introduced in Ohio's 136th General Assembly. Though marketed as a pro-life measure to inform women about Abortion Pill Reversal (APR), EAO identifies this bill as a dangerous moral concession that legally systematizes the killing of children.

"H.B. 783 is at its core describing the state-sanctioned process for legally prescribing poison, with the intent to kill another human being," said Austin Beigel, President of End Abortion Ohio. "This bill is legally regulating the very murder that pro-life organizations say they are against. The moment this state legislature would codify the proper legal way that a chemical abortion must be done, it now officially co-authors that act of prenatal homicide. End Abortion Ohio calls on Republicans to instead extend the Equal Protection of the laws to the victims of abortion."

We call on the General Assembly to understand the moral absurdity of H.B. 783, and to consider it applied to any other homicide. Imagine introducing a bill that legally permitted a husband to purchase poison from the pharmacy with the intent to kill his wife, provided the pharmacist first informed him that a poison control hotline existed in case he changed his mind after administering the lethal dose. No reasonable person would call that a protective measure of women. Everyone would rightly call it what it is: the legal authorization of homicide with a disclaimer attached.

That is precisely what H.B. 783 does as it prescribes, step by step, how a mother must legally obtain a chemical abortifacient to end the life of her own child. The same General Assembly considering the “Ohio Prenatal Protection Act” (H.B. 370), which rightly recognizes the preborn as full persons under Ohio law, is now entertaining legislation that treats those same persons as a medical condition to be managed with proper upfront disclosures.

"Over fifty years of regulating the slaughter has bureaucratized the deaths of these innocent babies," Beigel continued. "Abortion numbers in Ohio are rising despite countless bills like this. We call on every sponsor and co-sponsor of H.B. 783 to recognize this double-mindedness and to stand on the only morally defensible ground: Equal Protection for every image-bearer of God, from the moment of fertilization."

End Abortion Ohio remains committed to the passage of H.B. 370 and will actively oppose any pro-life legislation that substitutes procedural compliance with abortion for total abolition.
